A bear...Oh my!

Everyone has been talking about bear sightings for a while now and I've wanted to see one. Well, yesterday was the day. My golf group was playing at Woodmoor against Patty Jewett. On # 5 I hit a really good drive and all I had to do was to chip it on the green. While checking out my shot, I looked behind the green and there was a bear sitting there looking at me. Kind of exciting. I told the other ladies and figured it left and went into the brush. I didn't have a camera but this is what he looked like. Black bears are a cinnamon color when younger. He was pretty healthy looking too! When I went back over to check him out he was still there, watching. He started walking around, kept looking at us, and walked around the nearest house. From there he walked up # 6, across # 7 & 8 fairway. It kind of messed with my concentration for golf but it sure was exciting seeing one up that close.

Oscar, I think......

Not much going on around here...Arn is still watching TV. His eye appt. is on July 1st. Here's our current pet (Tyler's) that we are caring for since Tyler's job takes him out of town for random periods of time. I think his name is Oscar. He's pretty easy to care for - just throw a bunch of crickets in the cage or 10 or so worms.
I'd rather have a dog.....
Farmer's market, garage sales, mowing (req by HOA before Sunday), this weekend.

Eye Deja Vu

Just when I thought things were calming down after the beach house sale, the trip to Santa Fe, etc. more is happening. Arn had his cataract done mid May. This week he started having blurred vision and floaters. After much nagging he went to the eye doc yesterday who sent him on to the retina specialist. Come to find out he had a couple of retinal tears which were lasered ! The doc said it had nothing to do with his cataract. So.....he is out of commission for at least 2 weeks. He can only take little walks and watch TV (thank heaven the US Open is on this weekend). He can't drive, play golf, read, use the computer, work.....anything. This will hopefully prevent a retina detachment (which he had in the other eye in 2004, I think). His next eye doc appt is July 1st. So...we'll see hot it goes. Luckily we have the golf channel.

Wildfire!

Here's some pics of our wildfire experience on the way home from Santa Fe. It was kind of scary. The winds were really strong and I'm sure a good portion of their firefighters were down in Az. fighting those fires.
The cute little church was on our detour around the fire, thought it was kind of neat.

Do you know the way to Santa Fe??

We took a trip to Santa Fe for the weekend and had a great time! The smoke from the Arizona fires shortened the trip a little but we still had fun. Arn and I golfed at Paako Ridge (the 34th best public golf course in the US), and it was beautiful. We stopped on the way back from golf and had a beer at the bar in Madrid where they filmed Wild Hogs. We walked all over Santa Fe (down around the Plaza), went to a botique winery's wine tasting, did a 5 mi. hike up by the ski resort, ate lots of good food, had massages, and went to Trader Joe's! Our fav place to eat was Maria's of Santa Fe (great marg's and mexican food). On the way back we were stopped due to a wild fire at Raton, N.M. It had just started so they closed the highway and we sat for an hr. until the fire junped the highway. We decided not to get stuck in Raton (the highway is still closed and the fire has grown to 6,000 acres ) so we took off east and went thru some beautiful country (not very many people). It took us about an extra 4 hr. to get home!

Garage Sale Goodies

Here's my latest garage sale find this past Saturday. We've had lots of big black birds (ravens?) this year. This is a swinging rusty bird garden art thingy that I found at Stan's neighbor's garage sale. Maybe it will keep those birds away. Original price - $40.00, my price $8.00. She said if she had known I was Stan's sis she would have given me a better deal. I also got a free garage organizer for tools which Arn put up that day, a rolling pin, and 2 great walking sticks (from Stanie's sale).

The boy is back...and gone again!

Tyler returned last Sat. from his 9 weeks of oil rig/tool school in Houston. He was so glad to get home and relax for short while. We saw him a couple of times before he left today to head to North Dakota until June 13th. He flew into Dickinson, ND. today and will hopefully get to see Val and Eric a few times while he's there. He'll be about 30 min. from them. He's in charge of the rig job this time since he's been thru the school.
