We're playing a different course.......Kings Deer
We're playing a different golf course for the season due to some water issues and financial issues at our old course. We hope they get them ironed out. I usually play better at King's Deer. It is a Scottish style course so you can lose more balls and it is frequently windy. It is convenient though since it is in our neighborhood. First round of the year - 103! Arn has been playing golf all thru the winter at various courses.

The Little Country Church
A couple of months ago my childhood church closed. It used to be the Smithville EUB and then Smithville United Methodist. The congregation has been dwindling for years and they had trouble at times finding a minister. The 'conference' decided to close the church. My mom still attended and about 20 other people. I'm not sure what will happen to it. Vandals have already taken the doors off the private mausoleum (where a distant cousin - John Stewart was buried. They took the doors for the copper.). The contents were auctioned off to members. Mom got a caned chair (all the chairs were caned by my grandmother Iva Mae Warfel), some hymnals, and two child's chairs. I remember sitting in them for Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Hopefully someone will buy the church but I'm not sure if that will happen.

The Hat Lady (Gma)
My family has always been big into 'projects'. Mom always likes likes to have something to do while she visits to keep her busy when we are at work. In the past years it's been charity quilts, dolls, crochet washcloths, and keeping up with my mending and ironing. This year she wasn't interested in crocheting but started making 'comfort caps' for cancer patients. My quilt guild donated them to the area chemo centers. It's a cute reversible had that is soft and comfortable. It's made with T shirt knit which can be hard to find. We've made the same hat for Mere's softball team in high school (fleece) and Mom has made hats for her Red Hat group. We found lots of fabric at the ARC (thrift) and so far she has completed 75 hats. I think it gives her a purpose and keeps her brain active. She says it is also relaxing. Way to go Mom!

Why have we never eaten this before????
Tonight for dinner Arn cooked calamari steaks. They were delicious and very quick to prepare. He breaded them with Panko and cooked them in a skillet for 3 minutes on each side. He topped them off with a lemon caper butter sauce (small amt.) The texture is between fish and a scallop and very
tasty. Even Gma liked it. Quick, delicious, inexpensive (only alittle over 4.00 for 2), and healthy (78 cal. for 3 oz.). Definitely repeatable. We order calamari a lot when eating out but this is better and not fried!
