Graduation Twofer!

This past weekend was very busy! Arn turned 59, Meredith and Tyler both graduated from CU/Boulder, and it was Mother's Day. Val flew in from ND for the events. Meredith received a BA/Biology and Tyler received a BS in Architectural Engineering.
The smaller graduation ceremonies were on Thursday, May 6th. The weather was iffy but it was great that we had the handicap card which gave us great parking place. Meredith got to say a couple of sentences of thanks at hers (held outside in a tent). She got the summer job she wanted which is a lab research assistant. She'll get to do a little traveling to collect field specimens to Flagstaff, Az. and Woodland Park, Co. She will also still work at Whole Foods til it closes. Tyler's small ceremony was in the evening. He's taken a job offer with Schumberger, an oil company, and will start this fall. Houston, Oklahoma, and Louisanna willl all be explored. I think his title will be Jr. Field Engineer. Both ceremonies were very nice and I'm glad they both chose to participate. We went to The Med in between for drinks and apps. Friday morn was the large deal at Folsom Stadium at 8:30 in the morn. Arn and I stayed in Longmont. Stacy and Bea had come up on Thurs. and took Grandma back to Monument that night. We had some ice and snow but the weather warmed up. It was a great ceremony but we're glad we got a two for one. We hit the OPH afterwards and then back to Monument. The next day we had a party at the house. The Lenski's, UJ, Lahnerts, Banks, Stan and Bea, Miranda, and Chris and Maren all came. The weather was cool but the party was fun. So proud of all my kids! Some finished projects....

I seem to be the type of person who likes to keep track of things (lists). I don't scrapbook so I guess this is my way of recording happenings in our lives. One thing I have wanted to do is to keep a record of the quilts I complete so I guess I will start here and use them as posts when nothing exciting is happening. The first is a wool on wool applique. I occasionally go to Goodwill and ARC to scrounge for wool to use for projects. This was my first attempt at something like this. The second was a quick project for the condo (actually a fuse box camo cover). I hope that it is my photo that is crooked. I will have to check the quilt the next time we head to CB. The last one is a bear paw wall hanging (also in the CB condo). I am trying to break out of my usual color schemes. Recently I went to a program by Rene Peterson who is great with color and I am working on some of her patterns. It's paper piecing which I enjoy. I am also using lots of batiks which I have come to really love. I'll add some more pics of quilts when I get the pics....

Dave the Horn Guy

We went to this fundraising concert with the Bank's and Bea the other night. It was very entertaining! The guy had 25 horns strapped to his body and could play all kinds of music. The auditorium was packed and the kids were going wild over this guy. Interesting line of work but it seems to pay the bills for his family.

We'll miss you , Abby....

Yesterday Stacy, Bryan, Mason and Catie Bea had to say goodbye to their special pet Abby. She was 12 years old. Stacy was given this quote by a friend and I think it is really appropriate. "Aquiring a dog may be the only opportunity a human ever has to choose a relative". How true.... Rest in peace, Abby. We'll miss you.

The Last Snow Storm??

Yesterday my drive to work was the worst one of the year due to the road conditions and snow.
Hopefully this is the last storm of the year. It's really pretty but very heavy because of the water content. Guess it's good for the water table and the wildflowers. Arn was returning from Santa Fe from a golf trip so he wasn't around to keep up with the shoveling. When I left work (downtown Co. Springs) there was nothing on the ground and only a light drizzle. Monument got a couple feet of snow and as I neared our street there were lots of broken branches and trees due to the heavy snow. It's supposed to be in the 60's tomorrow so we decided to just let it melt and do the old 'drive on it and smash it down' thing. I did get out my snowshoes for the first time this year. Maggie came along as we trudged around our lot and the neighboring lots.
She had lots of trouble walking because the snow was so deep and heavy. Will there one more?? I hope not, I'm ready for spring!

Chops and Eric visit!

Eric was in town and we were glad that he and Chops came down for breakfast before he returned to Dickinson. Chops is such a cute puppy and so well behaved. We got to see all of his tricks and training in action. So what is he to Maggie? Sibling? Nephew? Anyway it was fun to see Eric and Chops. Thanks Eric! Missed you, Val. Love ya, miss ya, mean it....
