St. Elmo
We've been in Buena Vista for a couple of days and explored some places we hadn't been to before. We tried out the golf course one morning and the last day we went to St. Elmo's and the hot springs. St. Elmo is a ghost town and is on the National Historical Register. It is one of the best preserved ghost towns from the pioneer era. People settled there for gold and silver mining. There isn't much there now but it was interesting to see. In the 1800's about 2000 people lived there but were driven out by a couple of forest fires. Hummingbirds and chipmunks were everywhere. The drive up there was beautiful and I'd like to go back and explore some of the hiking trails. Watch for a future post about the hot springs.
